Mind·ful·ness (n) - the quality or state of being conscious or aware of something.
When I was little, my grandma would sing to me about pennies from heaven. I had no clue what that meant at the time, but it always made me happy when she sang to me.
To Laurie Libman-Wilson, owner of lifestyle brand Studio Penny Lane, the little penny reminds her to be mindful and grateful for her life. Rather than a monetary value, a penny represents gratitude.
Mindfulness means slowing down and appreciating the moment you are living in. Through mindfulness, one can feel grateful for their lives and the people in them.
“Mindfulness can slow down time because you’re present doing what you’re doing and you’re not thinking about what happened yesterday or what can happen tomorrow,” Libman-Wilson said. By living in the now, one can take the time to appreciate the moment and live with less inner judgment.
In each of Studio Penny Lane’s products, a penny is added to the packaging, reminding us to practice gratitude in our everyday lives.
Studio Penny Lane’s products range from candles to jewelry to tool kits. Not the wrenches and screwdrivers kind of tool kit, but the creative kind. Each of Studio Penny Lane’s tool kits includes a jar and items to put in the jar that remind us of gratitude. One includes a little notebook to write small love notes to yourself daily. When the jar is full or when your day is rough, open up the jar for a little reminder of who you are. It’s like bottling up your gratitude for when you really need it.
Though a penny is small, its meaning can be great. So slow down, appreciate the now, and maybe even take the time to ask someone a penny for their thoughts.
